Our Ingredients & Philosophy

HEALTH: There are several components to looking and feeling your best at all stages of life, most importantly maintaining a healthy lifestyle by eating a diet full of vegetables, fruits, and healthy proteins, staying hydrated, exercising, not smoking, and minimizing stress.

SKIN: Your skin is your largest organ and it absorbs what you put on it into its various layers but also into your circulation. So what you put on your skin affects you inside and out.

INGREDIENTS: Organic, unrefined, sustainably harvested and responsibly sourced butters and oils are the cornerstone of Liquid~Moon Skincare. When oils and butters are refined, many of their most valuable components are stripped away and in some cases harmful chemicals are left in their place. In their natural, unrefined state, butters, like liquid oils have much to offer the skin and body: essential fatty acids and phyto-chemicals such as vitamins, carotenes, minerals, antioxidants, tannins, sterols, polyphenols and terpenes which guard our health and nourish our skin and bodies.

RESULTS: The application of these nourishing ingredients have been shown to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, melasma, and scarring. Many of the components within the oils and butters are known to promote cell regeneration, collagen production, and protection against free radical and environmental damage.

PHILOSOPHY: Liquid~Moon Skincare believes your products should provide Health, Support, Harmony & Nutrition for your body and soul. You will never find parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin, diethanolamine (DEA), polyethylene beads in our products. What’s more is that we care about the health of our planet and the people (overwhelmingly women) who do the work of harvesting her gifts. Therefore we use fair-trade and sustainably sourced ingredients to the greatest degree possible.

Butters

Both butters and oils come from the fruit, seeds, nuts, or kernels of a plant. Butters are basically solid oils. In their unrefined states, they both offer an array of nutrients for the skin. Butters range from quite soft to quite hard. A body or facial ‘butter’ is always a combination of butters and oils and offers the benefit of creating a fine protective layer for the skin that helps to lock in moisture and keep impurities out. You’ve probably heard of cocoa butter, shea and mango butters, but have you heard of kokum butter from India or ucuuba and murumuru butters from the Amazonian Rainforest? You will find many lovely and exotic butters and oils in Liquid~Moon Skincare!

Performance Oils…Nature’s Nectar

Unrefined oils have so much to offer the skin including an array of essential fatty acids and phyto-chemicals such as vitamins, carotenes, minerals, antioxidants, tannins, sterols, polyphenols and terpenes. When oils are not stripped of these healing compounds, they nourish and balance the skin. In their natural state they retain the colors and scents that make them unique, which is sometimes welcome and sometimes not, but always real! Some of the performance oils you will find in Liquid~Moon Skincare are argan, pomegranate seed, rosehip seed, jojoba (technically a wax), cranberry seed, camellia, acai, tamanu, pracaxi, and pataua. It’s exciting to consider the myriad number of plants in the world whose seeds can be pressed to reveal the very same oil that sustains the plant itself, and to be grateful for this nectar from nature.

Essential Oils and Hydrosols

Essential oils are not the same as carrier or ‘performance’ oils which are considered fixed oils. Essential oils are made from plants and flowers, generally steam distilled, and are considered volatile, which means they will evaporate. Essential oils are extremely concentrated aromatic oils that provide specific therapeutic benefits and should always be applied in very small quantities via a carrier or fixed oil. Hydrosols are the scented waters left over from the process of steam distilling the plant matter. They retain the therapeutic functions, though more subtly. There are numerous essential oils that support a quest for more youthful, resilient skin including frankincense, myrrh, geranium, ylang ylang, sandalwood, patchouli to name a few.
